About this place
A course built around Joshu beef and foie gras makes for a substantial French meal. Furukawaya in Oji serves a course featuring sautéed Joshu beef fillet and foie gras, a combination that diners who have ordered it say stayed with them. The meal may begin with a classic amuse-bouche, seasonal hors d’oeuvres and soup, then continue with fish or meat, a dessert plate, petits fours and coffee. Some courses let you choose between fish and meat, making it easy to pick a main course to suit your mood.
At lunch, one diner enjoyed the fish meunière and dessert. Others have mentioned unusual vegetable accompaniments, as well as a marinade of shiitake mushrooms and chilled white-carrot potage among their favourites. There is plenty to consider beyond the meat dishes: the vegetables and soups deserve a look, too. For after the meal or as a gift, there is also a Takino River burdock sweet. One diner found that it had the aroma of burdock yet worked deliciously as a cake—a tempting way to try a local flavour bearing the restaurant’s name.
Some diners have enjoyed wine with their course; one recounts having the menu adjusted to match a wine with special memories. The drinks selection also includes beer, so there are options to pair with the food. Reservations are available, and are recommended for both lunch and dinner, so consider booking ahead. Diners have also noted views of JR trains and trams from the window, adding a glimpse of Oji to the meal.
